Gift Tag Ornament
Wow, tomorrow is Christmas Eve! Times are flying by. I'm going to keep with the countdown until New Year's Eve! So stay tuned for last minute gift ideas, do it yourself projects and some yummy treats to serve to guests or bring to a host/hostess to a party.
A friend of mine posted on Facebook a Christmas craft project she did with her boys where she made handmade salt dough ornaments to put on their tree, maybe gift to friends/family etc. She gave me an idea that I'm sharing with you today.
This do it yourself project is great because you are making flat ornaments but using them as your gift tag. It's a double whammy... gift tag AND a small handmade gift!
Supplies:
- You can do a few things for your clay.
- Use salt dough clay: my friend suggested this link she found here.
- Air dry clay (this is what I used). This can be found at a local craft store.
- acrylic paints
- Christmas/Winter themed cookie cutters
- ribbon
- paint brushes
- rolling pin or a jar to use as one.
Step 1: make your salt dough or get your air dry clay. Form small balls and roll out a piece big enough to fit your cookie cutter but only an 1/8-1/4 inch thick.
Step 2: Starting cutting out the shape of your clay tag/ornament and make as many or few as you'd like. Put a hole in the top big enough for a piece of ribbon but not large that it takes away from your ornament/tag. (I used a pencil to poke it)
Step 3: Let them dry overnight especially if your working with little kids to make this craft. They like to pick up the ornaments and paint with it in their hand. Unless they're old enough to keep it on the
table (or on a paper plate) to paint and not touch.
Step 4: Paint your clay, let it dry and add ribbon.
You can write on the name of the person receiving the gift and sign it on the back. They can then save the tag as an ornament for their tree.
So super cute. It's also a great project to do with kiddos home from break looking for something to do.
